Duties include coordination with FEMA to ensure project eligibility, and managing design consultants for compliance with program criteria and overall project scheduling, as well as construction oversight.

Storm Water (Drainage) East Bank Drainage Improvement Program, Jefferson Parish, LA:

DEII has recently completed Phase I of a comprehensive five phase program to study, model, and recommend improvements to Jefferson Parish’s undersized subsurface drainage system. Jefferson Parish has long been plagued by chronic flooding of streets and homes in severe storm events. Much of the existing sub-surface system was constructed with drain lines which were sized for a two or five year design storm, prior to the current ten year design storm criteria which was established in the early 1980’s. The purpose of the Jefferson Parish East Bank Master Drainage Program is to present an organized, logical and long term program which will identify and prioritize needed drainage improvements in the unincorporated East Bank of Jefferson Parish. This will result in a storm water management system for the urbanized area which will include the following components:

  • Inventory of System and Development of Storm Water Management Program
  • Characterize Drainage System through Hydraulic Model
  • Develop Drainage Improvement Plan and Associated Costs
  • Public Dissemination and Funding Coordination of Proposed Improvements
  • Implementation of Proposed Improvements

The plan is to focus on localized neighborhood flooding problems due to substandard drainage systems which do not meet the ten (10) year design standard and to provide a set of practical tools that will assist the Parish to mitigate flooding and related storm water runoff problems now and in the future.
